Thank you for your interest in becoming a Writing On Whidbey Island podcast personality! To date 100% of our new hosts have have been invited based on being prior WOWI interviewees — but that’s not an absolute requirement*. Read on — if you think you have the right stuff — by all means … we’d like to hear from you.
What we look for in our WOWI Co-Hosts
Do you have personality? Do you possess an affable, professional demeanor? Are you team oriented and fun to work with? Do you have knowledge within an area of the writing industry that you can speak on? Do you communicate well on the fly? Do you have schedule availability and dependable transportation? Can you take on independent tasks and complete them punctually? Are you willing to help with booking dates, writing blog posts, and other behind-the-scenes work? Are you a previous WOWI guest?
If you can say “Yes!” to most these, then you are off to a great start!
Basic Host Requirements
You are able to prove that you are …
- Currently residing on Whidbey Island (surprising, I know!) and have been here for the past 2 years or more.
- Somehow established in the literary writing community &/or industry – for example – you are a published author, poet featured in journals, accomplished audiobook narrator, employed as an editor, own a small independent publishing company, an illustrator who’s work is in books, et cetera.
- Song lyricists, computer code geeks, greeting card writers, et cetera — while that’s all great stuff … sorry, it isn’t what we’re looking for.
- At least 18 years of age or older.
Please understand that being a part of WOWI is all-volunteer — done for fun & for free — no one is getting paid. We do what we do ‘for the love of the game’. If you think it’s about gaining wealth and fame, or that you’ll go and try being a host for one episode and then ditch it … frankly, this isn’t for you. PERSONALITY
So why do we do it?
We enjoy being a part of something a little different, learning about the experiences of another person in our community, and getting to plug our own work once or twice during a podcast episode. If that suits you, and everything else above is a fit … get ahold of us! PERSONALITY
Wait — wasn’t there an * above?
What was that about?!?
Being a previous guest on Writing On Whidbey Island is not a 100% requirement. However, if you have been a guest … we’ve already met you, we already an initial idea of what you’re like during a recording session, and we already have a notion about your potential fit with the WOWI team. Not being a prior guest isn’t a deal breaker, but it does take a lot of work out of the consideration process. So, if you’re not a prior guest and you think you have what it takes … Take Your Shot — get a hold of us, let’s take a look. PERSONALITY
